Over the course of twenty-six days, Joseph DeLappe reenacted the Salt March, completed by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 in protest against the British Salt Act of 1882. The artist walked the entire 240 miles of the original march on a self-powered (non-motorized) treadmill customized to control the forward movement of his online avatar in Second Life, enabling the simultaneous live and virtual reenactment of the historic march.
